L-Menthol

Menthol is an edible spice permitted for use in China, and is mainly used for flavouring toothpaste, candies and beverages. Menthol and Spearmint can be used as flavouring agent for toothpaste, perfume, beverage and candy. In medicine, it is used as a stimulant, acting on the skin or mucous membranes, with a cooling and itching effect; internally, it can be used as a wind-repellent drug for headache and inflammation of the nose, throat and larynx. Its ester is used in spices and medicines. Menthol exists naturally in peppermint oil, the content is as high as 80%, and it can be isolated from peppermint oil industrially. Menthol crude oil will be frozen to a 20 ºC, the separation of crystalline crude menthol; the mother liquor will be further frozen to -40 ºC, Chemicalbook can also be separated to get part of the crude menthol. Crude menthol was melted by heating, depressurised to remove water, and filtered while hot. Cooled to about 0 ºC, static 7 ~ 9d, separated from the crystalline, 42 ºC drying 24h, dry to room temperature is the finished product.
